Elkhorn vs Elkhorn South: What You Need to Know

Elkhorn

Friday brings another high school football matchup to Yurview Omaha, as Elkhorn will take on Elkhorn South in a critical Class B matchup. Elkhorn is 4-2 on the season, while South is undefeated on the season at 6-0. The game can be seen on Yurview Omaha for customers of Cox Communications, and will also be streamed live on Yurview.com on Friday October 6th at 7:00pm CT.

The Elkhorn South Wagon

Elkhorn South is an absolute powerhouse, an impressive statement considering their first season was in 2010. The two-time defending Class B champions, South hasn’t lost a game since 2014, winning 32 straight. The Antlers last beat Elkhorn South in 2014 an also lead the series 5-2. Regardless of history, the score will be 0-0 at 7:00pm on Friday, and Elkhorn will try to bring the heat to this Storm team that can dominate both offensively and defensively.

Control the Ball, the clock, and the Game

Elkhorn certainly has displayed a style of play this season offensively under Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame 2017 Inductee Mark Wortman, and it’s not hard to see how that style helps them in this game. Wortman, in his 38th season, wants to run the football, and then he wants to run it some more and he’s seen this type of game before.

Luckily for him, he has two backs to tote the rock, both with five rushing touchdowns, at different stages of their careers. Senior Jacob Pickering has ran for 360 yards, while freshman Aiden Young has nearly 500 yards on the ground. Last week, expanded his game, breaking a punt return for a score. If they can play from ahead and get that ground game moving the chains, they’ll give themselves a chance to shorten the game on the Elkhorn South.

Where’s the Hole?

Did we mention that Elkhorn South is a juggernaut? One of the toughest reasons for their success is that they can score for days…or they can keep you from scoring for days. They haven’t scored less than 42 points in any game and they’ve only allowed two scores in one game  this season, their opener vs York in August.
