Wichita State shook off an up-and-down first half to bury Oral Roberts with a flurry of offensive daggers Wednesday night.
The Shockers (7-4) scored 48 second-half points to beat the Golden Eagles, 83-64, inside Charles Koch Arena.
Senior Markis McDuffie led all scorers with 25 points for Wichita State. Jaime Echenique added 19 while Ricky Torres scored a career-high 13 and a team-high 6 assists.
Oral Roberts led 15-13 early. But Erik Stevenson was one of several Shockers to dive on the floor for a loose ball, leading to an old-fashioned 3-point opportunity for Echenique.
The play helped spark a 12-0 run for Wichita State, but foul trouble led to a 12-4 run for Oral Roberts at the end of the half.
The Shockers dominated after halftime, burying seven of their eight 3s.
“I thought we were really good except for the last 3.5 minutes of the first half,” head coach Gregg Marshall said. “That was as well as we’ve played for 36.5 minutes, and that’s what we needed going into Saturday (against VCU).”
A young Wichita State has won 5 of 6 after a 3-3 start to the season. The Shockers must travel to VCU on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
