(Game Recap): Wichita State (0-1) missed 13 free throws and got out-rebounded in a 71-58 loss to Louisiana Tech (1-0).
Playing with an inexperienced team, Gregg Marshall’s Shockers fell behind by 10 at halftime.
Wichita State cut the lead to 6 and failed to score on four consecutive possessions, eventually getting to within 5 late in the game. But the team couldn’t capitalize on offense.
A pair of freshmen guards showed promise in their collegiate debut. Erik Stevenson led the team with 16 points and 3 rebounds off the bench, drilling 4-of-6 3-point attempts. Dexter Dennis also reached double figures with 10 points.
Last season, Marshall’s Shockers finished with a 25-8 record and a second place finish in the American Athletic Conference.
Louisiana Tech went 17-16 in 2017-18 and finished 9th in Conference USA.
