Putnam City North met Norman North at Harve Collins Field in Norman, Oklahoma Thursday night on the Ford Game of the Week. The PC North Panthers came in 2-1 in 6A Division I District 1 competition while the Norman North Timberwolves were 1-2. The winner would be in a strong position to make the playoffs.
Putnam City North scored first at the 3:31 mark of the first period. At the Norman North 18 yard line, the snap got away from Panther quarterback Aaron Norment. He managed to pick up the ball and scramble to his right. Then he found Angelo Bell in the end zone. Bell made a very nice diving catch for the touchdown and PC North led 7-0.
Norman North had a mix-up on a hand-off that caused a fumble and Missouri State commit Will Taylor recovered the ball for the Panthers. That led to a 9 play 60 yard drive that ended early in the second quarter with an 11 yard touchdown pass from Norment to Taylor which built the PC North lead to 14-0.
Another big Panther defensive play came a few minutes later. PC North’s DK Stevenson came through untouched to block a Norman North punt and then fell on the ball in the end zone as the PC North lead grew to 21-0.
Norman North fought back on a drive highlighted when Norman North quarterback Jackson Remualdo found Malachi Gatewood who made a great leaping catch that set up the Timberwolves deep in PC North territory. A few plays later Remualdo hit Cale Cabbiness on a 5 yard slant that made the score 21-7 with 2:11 left in the first half.
Norman North forced a Panther punt and got the ball back with less than 30 seconds to go in the half. But that man Will Taylor picked off a Jackson Remualdo pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. PC North led at halftime 27-7.
Norman North scored halfway through the third period on a 5 yard Blane Martin touchdown run to close the margin to 27-14. But PC North came right back with a 6 play, 68 yard drive that led to a 17 yard connection between Norment and Tyce Mythen and the Panthers were back up by 20 at 34-14.
PC North added a field goal in the fourth quarter. Then Will Taylor scored again, this time on a short two yard run. Putnam City North won the game by a score of 44-14.
Putnam City North improves to 3-1 in district play. Norman North drops to 1-3 in District. Putnam City North Quarterback Aaron Norment threw three touchdown passes.
