Wichita State women’s basketball leveraged a 13-0 fourth-quarter run to get revenge on a short-handed East Carolina on Tuesday night.
The Shockers (9-11, 2-5) won 57-47, earning a second consecutive conference win after starting 0-5. Wichita State lost 78-56 at ECU (10-10, 1-6) on Jan. 9.
Jaida Hampton led the team with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Alyssia Faye scored 9, including an and-1 in the fourth quarter that sparked the breakaway run. Seraphine Bastin added 10 rebounds.
East Carolina sprinted to a 9-0 run to start the second half as Lashonda Monk drained three 3-point shots in the third quarter. But ECU, competing with just eight available players, could not take advantage of a bevy of Wichita State turnovers, and seemed to lack offensive power outside of Monk.
Wichita State will attempt to extend its winning streak to three games Saturday against Temple (5-14, 1-5). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT at Charles Koch Arena, and YurView Kansas will broadcast the game.
