Wichita State nearly overcame a 17-point deficit without five key players before succumbing to Creighton’s hot shooting Saturday in an 83-71 loss.
The Shockers (5-4) played without a handful of contributors due to a violation of team rules.
Trailing by 17 in the second quarter, Alyssia Faye, Shyia Smith and Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage fueled a monster comeback. Wichita State overtook Creighton (4-4) and took a 57-56 third-quarter lead, but the Blue Jays outscored them 27-14 the rest of the game.
Faye had a career game for Wichita State with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Creighton made a school-record 18 3s.
Wichita State concludes its home-stand at noon CT Tuesday when it hosts Grambling State.
